Bernd
Tesch has been working in this field since 1970. In this times I had
to write letters and to phone or to visit the European-Travellers to get contact
/ informations. Later Fax helped. In 1991 I visited the most famous motorcycle-travellers
in Denmark, in 1993 in Britain, in 1994 in USA and in between many in Europe (France,
Germany, Netherland, Switzerland). Many of European Motorcycle Travellers
have been at my yearly Motorcycle-Meeting for World-Travellers in april: More
than 10.000. I own the largest archive of World-Travellers in all continents.
To find all this and all my activities was a "life-long job" and
cost me a lot of money. All books about "European-Motorcycle-Travellers" from
1910 until 1994 are published in my in German written, but very international
understandable book called "Motorrad-Abenteuer-Touren" = Motorcycle-Adventure-Tours (432 pp, 500 pictures / drawings. About
264 Motorcyle World-Tours. ISBN 3-9800099-55-5. DM 38.90). I own all this books
in all languages.
If there is shown "Book:" under the traveller

English books are reviewed in English in the catalogue.
If
you are have travelled Europe by Motorcycle extensively or plan to do this or "on the road" already or know anyone who is not listed here, please send my any
details, addresses, publications, homepages and most important: best pictures.
I would be very grateful if you can offer me especially informations of "Historical

I am very grateful to all the individuals who informed me since 1970 worldwide
by meeting me, phoning, sending letters, later faxes and emails since 1994 about
Motorcycle-World-Travellers including Europe. This internet-list had to be done
in many days but too quick, because I did not have enough time. So please give
me your "pardon" that there are mistakes inside of the informations and a lot
in my language.
If you would have read this above you will be disappointed
that there is nothing listed so far. The reason is very easy:
I am a one-man-business
and have preferred so far to take my time to update the other continents. If you
would look under >countries > world you will see what I have done already !

The universe
started to exist somehow.
4.5 billion years ago
The
Sun and Earth were created. The earth is one of nine big planets of
the sun. Possibly out of change of gravity in the universe it was caused that
dust attracted each other at first to smaller parts which are getting bigger and
bigger. Finally becoming big rocks which attracted each other to big planets.
Most of them were attracted by the biggest part which is the sun. The nine planets
could escape somehow the gravity of the sun and started to circle around the sun.
All of the men / women who have been in satelits speak about the "blue planet
earth" because about 70 % of the earth is water.

Wilhelm Maybach
fährt erstmalig damit. 1 - Zyl. Viertakt - Motor. 264 ccm. 0,5 PS (0,37 kw).
Max 12 km/Std.
In Untertürkeim wächst
die heutige Daimler - Benz AG.
1887
Stevens, Thomas. Around
the world on a bicyle. Solo-Weltumrundung auf einem Hochrad von Stevens.
1894
Heinrich und Wilhelm Hildebrand und Alois Wolfmüller gründen in München die erste Motorrad - Fabrik.
Bis 1896 bauen
sie mehr als 1000 Maschinen: Wassergekühlter 2 - Zyl. Viertakt - Motor. 1488
ccm. 2,5 PS (1,85 kw). Ca. 40 km/h. Glührohrzündanlage.
1900
NSU.

Da kommen Ortschaften, Kontrollen, vereiste Waldwege, stille Gegenden, laute Städte.
Schneestürme empfangen uns in Norddeutschland.
Meine Maschine kommt immer besser in Gang.
Menschen, Hurras. Hüte-, Tücherschwenken, Ekstase der Begeisterung. Schlamm, Schneekot, tiefe Löcher der Straße. Fünfzig Kilometer zwischen Menschenmauern. Köln, die heilige Stadt, fliegt heran. Es ist kaum zum Durchkommen vor Menschen, Kraftwagen, Krafträdern, Radfahrern. Blumen und Lärm. Die Deutschlandfahrer sind kaum mehr weiterzubringen. Überall in den Vororten Empfänge, Reden, Hurras. Weine vom Rhein, Mosel, fließen in Strömen.
Bloß weiter. Wer kennt so was in Berlin?

In 6 days Sophia and her sister rode 2013 km with her own BMR 63 with a Royal-Sport-Sidecar. That means a high average per day in those times. Both were married and their husbands normally would not allow o travel on a motorcycle without them. On the way they had to pay several times Maut.
Within four hours Sophia got he route and the Triptique´s (douane-documents) for SHS and Italy from the TOURING-Club.
Her final summary: There is nothing nicer than with "Lust und LIebe mit Ziel oder ohen Ziel die shcöne Welt zu schauen".
Purpose: from today to tomorrow with the sister.
Route: First day: Wien Laibach 417 km. Second day: Karlovac (Karlstadt) - Plittwitzer Lakes (called "Jugoslawien Swiss"). Third day: Knin visiting friends. Sebenico. Fourth day: Zara. In a storm "Bora" the front-tire broke. So now Sophia noticed her mistake to ride without a tire in reserve. In the rain and on the rim of the front wheel they rode 36 kms to Tijesno. The rim did not have any mistake then. Fifths day: They had to wait because the new tire had to be ordered in Spallato. He was delivered by motorcycle. Sixth´s day: To Sebenicio passing donkeys and cows on the "main road".

Egon wrote this book as a novel to make more tension.
He was himself the one who travelled in 1993 with 22 years smoe months to Sweden.
The Wachsmuth-Motorcycle was in reality a Wanderer-Motorrad. He started first
travels in 1931 by bicycle and in 1933 with motorcycles. He rode a DKW and
Ardie with sidecar (with a girlfriend from Paris) before the war. With a Glas-scooter
after the war to the Riviera. On travelled at this time without stoplight. Wonderful

Marcus Wischemann (German, 11.03.1967) , www.dr600s.de.vu Photos von dieser Tour-> www.dr600s.de.vu->Motorräder -> Vespa
+ Germany - Southern Europe . Marcus traveled on a Vespa 150 Sprint (Date 1968/~45.000km old with twoSchool Pals (also on Vespa, but "new" PX200) about. 5000km in 3 weeks through Germany, Switzerland (Alps), France, Italy Yugoslavia, Austria (Dolomites) and back up to north Germany.
Purpose of your travel: .Just left school, wanted to get out and see the world like it is, without the travel-agency-view.
Route : Europe:.about 5000km in 3 weeks through Germany, Switzerland (Alps), France, Italy, Yuguslavia, Austria (Dolomites) and back up to north Germany
Highlights: Meeting all those open minded people along the streets and visiting people either of us had met before in live. We were just riding where it looked beautiful, asking people to let us camp on their ground (even in front of a castelet at the lake Geneva), had only one problem with that - we belled on a house in Bibione were ! german! tourists lived for if we could stay besides the house on the grass in the big garden for a night with our tent and were chased away with some not very nice words.
In all other cases (we sometimes used camp grounds or youth hostels in bigger cities) we were - especially in Italy and Yugoslavia - welcomed and sometimes even got offered something to eat for the exchange of telling our travelling stories (none of us really speaks italian..) the smaller the village, the more interested the people. In Genova the Police "guarded" us with their Vespas through the city to an address of a girl one of us met in France a year ago. We just came along for a short "Hello" - and a friend of her organized a whole appartment for us just within 20 min and we had no chance but to stay and having three perfect days of genovian family and "Party-Life".
In Pisa we met two american soldiers on vacation, stuffing us with a hell of army food and whisky along their campfire while exchanging stories.
From Fierence to Bologna and to the Adriatic Coast . In the Po Delta a group of italian youngsters saw us driving by, one grabbed his Vespa and came after us to stop us an have a talk with the group. He was so keen on showing the power of his Vespa that he nearly rode into a sidechannel while driving on the back weel and presenting other stunts.
When we came to Yugoslavia a man came to us while resting beside the street an invited us for bread and coffee. He had lived in Germany for a couple of years and again it was an exchange of storys for a couple of hours - and transporting a washing machine- eight hands are better than two!
Near Porec we visited friends from school on a campground - and had a discussion with the local police about driving on one Vespa with three people- it cost a fee of about two DM on that time. Unfortunately I recocnized that campground a couple of years later on TV as a refugee camp in the civil war.
Back direction Austria we got a free place to camp offered by the mayor of a (very) small village, had a bath in the - i don´t yet know how the water could flow with this low temperature - river and got warned about the snakes on our nighting place - on the next morning..
On the border between Austria and Germany the first of us rode through the customers with about 80 km/h, not recognizing the abandoned checkpoint. Just seconds later the customers stepped out from watching a football game an held the rest of us for checking absolutely every paper and luggage. After that hour we had a nice restplace for the night ON the river isar (in words: just our sleeping bags on a small brigde, just a meter above the water).
The worst: "lost" the clutchpackage in Savona (a screw went loose and I had to take out the motor and shake it above my head to get the parts out of the oily gearbox)- and met a traveler from Newseeland on a BMW while repairing it on the street
Book or publication (about your tour): Website
My useful informations and TIPS for others: .... keep away from the crowded touristic places, even 5 km back off there are much more open minded & familiar people.. a "smaller" or older motorcycle that "fits" to the country helps to find acceptence. Ex. Given: most of the Italian people were absolutely enthusiasted by us driving "their italian" Vespa through southern Europe. I´m not sure about leaving open luggage on a big new expensive BMW parked just in the middle of Bologna ...
My earlier experiences of big Motorcycle-Tours:... sorry, just the standard: two weeks time, grab the bike and a friend, have a look on TV weather report, decide to go to the north or to the south and off it rolles. Cannada / USA offered the Greyhound, Australia provided us with a nearly new Toyota Landcruiser (just about driven-in 4.2 L &Cyl with only 300.000km on the Speedo - never drove such a reliable car ) for the Adelaide-Birdsville- Alice-Cairns tour.
Planned Tours: you might laugh: been in Norway , Sweden, England, often in France, Spain, Portugal, worked on LaPalma Island on a Vulcano, went surfing on CaboVerde, drove thru Australia, had a small lock to Can/US - but- never have been in the wild German East like Mecklenburg-Vorpommern direction Poland...

Europe 7 times. Aaron from California showed up here in Zweifall in july 1998 a third time with
his old BMW riding to search the oldest pubs of Ireland just before we wanted
to leave. He likes to relax here for days. Because he is a motorcycle-mechanic
he kindly repaired three days my BMW, which has standing for a too long time because
of work. The worst for a mc is to stand still. But he forget to tie up the screws
of the brake. Never forget: Just you are yourself responsible for your life !
Aaron is an unnormal Americian. At the BMW-shop in San Francisco he gets normally
a 2-weeks holiday a year. But he wanted four weeks to travel in Europe. Because
he is good mechanic they wanted him back again. Because he liked Europe and left
his bike here he asked his boss the next year for 6 weeks holiday. They wanted
him back another time. The third year back he wanted to ride his BMW for two months.
So they quitt him. Now he is repairing bikes by himself.

- Lago Di Maggiore - Sexten) - Germany (Kassel - Puttgarden) - Sweden (Rödby -

He had no society or met each day another society.
He slept in a tend or in simple hotels.
Purpose of travel: A little
bt of freedom. To loose the daily routine for some weeks. To know Europe a bit
better. To learn Italian language. The feeling to have an always working motor
as a pushing hammer below. To ride to the horizont.
The best: The Italian
mountains. The old towns.
The worst: Mist and snow in the Alps.
Useful tips for others: To change the feather behind because the original
is too week. If you do not want to have big efforts Europe is good for motorcycling.
Nearly all good roads. Friendly people. Easy to find a lodge. Good food. Exotic
places you find e.g. in Italian Abruzzen and the Tundra and mountains of Norwegian
and in the north of Sweden. Or a circle in St. Petersburg in Russia. I plan to
ride again to Italy in summer 2002 because I could not see all in one week.
B.T.: 15.11.1998 Sometimes I get very touching letters.
The Swedish medicin doctor Johan wrote me that his interest in motorcycles was
in waves. In his youth he rode with a "Huskvarna Silverpil (125 ccm)". The next
25 years he did not take care of motorcycles because of his profession and raising
up a family with 3 children. But when his oldest son bought a mofa in 1993 his
interest came back. Nowadays Johan has a SUZUKI Freewind XF 650 and is searching
always for little offroad tracks in Sweden, where he can ride a whole day without
seeing any other vehicel. His wife is not interested in motorcycling but very
tolerant. So he can travel by motorcycel in Sweden and Norwegian by himself. In
1999 Johan will be 50 years and his great wish is to ride in 3 weeks through Skandinavia
or to cross or circumnavigate Island. We will see... Johan bought a lot of Motorcycle-Travel-Books.
The best he could do to motivate himself.
09.99 Johan rode Sweden-Italy and
forgot to visit Bernd Tesch...

Highlights : We wanted to visit Legoland, all Outdoor-Museums from historie of vikings in Denmark (and Haithabu in Germany and Trelleborg in Sweden ) and look for the highlights from the books of Astrid Lindgren on the original places in Sweden . We although where paddling and trekking and riding on a bicycle.
The worst: Thunderstorm in a little canoe on lake lelong .
Book or publication: Story in German magazin "MOTORRAD" in July 2000
Useful informations and TIPS for others: Motorbike travelling with kids take more time than only with adults. The whole journey should be a game, in witch the children have the biggest part.
Earlier Experiences of big Motorcycle-Tours: - nothing!
04.08.1999 In many points an extra-ordernary women: She has alsways dreams and is planning. She has been in Australia, most by car/backpacking by herself, but with a motorcycle as well. Since then she wants to go back. And she will do it ! She took part in my course Travel-Survival-Training and wrote a nice report of it. She has visited the Mc-Meeting for World-Travellers sometimes. In 1998 she came with the whole family on bikes, her small daughter Lotti on the back and driving with her through a deep river. In 1999 she arrived in south of Germany in cold march of a family vacation on saturday morning and jumped directly on her packed bike coming straight to th Mc-Meeting for World-Travellers. Today I got a postcard that she rode solo with her small daughter Lotti to Sweden.

Patricia Govers (Durch)
and Bernd Tesch (German, born 20.08.1941)
+ Just motorcycle-holiday in Europe. Patricia Govers and Bernd Tesch made a small motorcycle-tour through Europe.
With Tesch-BMW R 80 G/S (1981) with new motor and gearbox (1st shorter, last longer
than original, all made from BMW-specialist Dirk Erker) we covered 5.400 kms through
10 different countries:
Route: Germany - exDDR - Tschechei - Austria
- Slowakei - Hungary - Kroatie - Slowenia - Italy - Switzerland - Germany - France
- Germany.
Patricia wanted to see Toscana in Italy and Schwarzwald-forest
in Germany. We crossed beautiful Toscana-mountains from north to south and to
Ascona at the beach in the east. We had wunderful views, saw all this similar
European trees and the curves were as well the same. I just learned the Italian
name for a 180 degrees-curve new: Tornante. We tested a lot of this famous red
Italian wine. The sheapest bottle were those besides the open daily fires in front
of our tent in the nowhere places of all this forests. Italian pastas you can
get as thin spaghettis or big hoses you can look through or even square ones filled
with greens. The difference was the price. The same was that after ten minutes
they are all in the stomache. So I ate mostly cheap ones while Patricia prefers
to eat a little more with luxury. On this trip I was just the riding guide for
Patricias tour.
But the bike-route showed her much more. In east Europe
we had a long time 30-35°C, which causes more stops to drink coffee. When we crossed
the Alps to the north via pass San Gottardo we had snow there on the road. And
all this snow covered huge mountains besides the road looked dangerous and asked
us to respect them. How have the first peolpe crossed these high rock-chains WHEN
? I assume that the name "Schwarzwald" (= black forest) comes from the darkness
of all this trees. The bike-route showed Patricia the "Grauwald" (= grey forest)
as well. While crossing all the Schwarzwald-Hochstrasse 1036 m high (= high steet)
south-north the mist was so strong that I could hardly see all this trees though
all this grey. I had to ride very slowly and careful in this misty-rainy season.
May be all this grey was the reason we missed to see all the crocodiles and elephants
there... Patricia and I had mostly a great time together seeing so much: Each
second while riding. Makes at least 30 days x 14 hours alive/day x 60 minutes
/ hour x 60 sec / minute >>> 1.5 mio impressions. I do not know if "to work out
this amount of impessions" is one reason that we had a few arguments "on the road".
Or is it that she loves more luxury and doushes than I (I can sleep for months
happily in a tend just with an open fire and a peace of bread/cheese and hot/sweet
tea) ? I know it is hard to ride with such a wild man! Or is it just that
she loves to visit towns / shops and art gallerys / museums much more (I hate
the traffic of big cities and always watch my motorcycle to be sure not to find
two of the same after an hour being away) ?
My intension was to ride two different
ways to Italy and back and to see the development of the east Europen countries
again. I have been there in the 1970ties already. At least I did not see the soldiers
at the borders with machine guns anymore. The faces of the people had more smiling,
more houses had colour instead of the old grey and the living standard had increased.
Sometimes we just had to show only the passport or even could pass without as
motorcycle-travellers. And I organised a small "1st Italian motorcycle meeting
for WORLD-travellers" in the Alps. And we visted the "Largest Sidecar Museum of
Europe: Museo Internationale Del Sidecar" in Cingoli near Ascona. GREAT ! Patricia
and I visited our travellers-friends Damiano (21) and Vania (21) in the Dolomits
whom we met in Australia in 1999-2000. This was a human higlhlight for Patricia
and me. There is much more to write. I wrote my diary in detail. I do not know
now when I will finish this report with pictures "from the road". When I came
home I had 50 cm of letters, 15 more calls on the answering machine and it took
34 minutes to get my 173 emails from last time. GMX closed my box fo emails: TOO
much bites!
In this moment I do NOT know what is most important to do next.To
answer all ?? How can I manage this all in time ? May be it is more important
to have other thoughts: What were the reasons that those terror-people made this
desaster in the USA ? Are WE in the civilised (?) western world are right with
all what we mean / thing / feel ? Is it most important to get most money / best
car / best TV / biggest house ? Must everything function like a timetable? Do
Americans really need 400 liter of water per person each day (Germans need 120)
while other people die of lack of water each moment?? AIs it not more important
to start to learn from other human beings in other countries ? Is it not more
important to help others and to be more modest here? We really have to find
those reasons that other people attack us AND to change. There is NO reason
to force other people to think / feel like we do and to tell / show them that
we are the strongest / best !!! In some cases their life is much better ! The
majority of Americans have to notice that there are other people in the world
than just they are. There is more need to travel abroad and to learn from others.
There are more ways of life than just ours ! Let other people live like they want
to live ! If we would avoid to transfer "our way of life" to others so strongly
at least this would cause less reasons to attack us. We have to punish this terror-people.
But there is no reason and way today just to bomb other places, people and even
countries at once. It is better to analyse very carefully and trying to find solutions
without war. If WE do not find the reasons of our mistakes at first and make a
change... This will cause more terror. Do YOUHHH agree?
My very personal
thoughts: The world is govered by the laws of nature. The atom, the mircro-cosmos
and the makro-cosmos like stars function in the same way: Plus and minus and reactions
between those. The human being and his brain is just a little part - a high complicated
one - of this great nature. So there are unlimited possibilities of reactions
between those plus-minus. Sometimes comes good things out of it like love or sometimes
worst. We have to live with this. Mostly it is great! Well, I have a lot of time
to think about this. In Tschechei at a lake in the forest with an open fire I
just turned sixty ! I still feel like 20 traveling with my bike.

Earlier experiences: Eine Soloreise mit Hitze (36 Grad) an der Cote d' Azur, Schnee und Minustemperaturen am Furkapass, Sonne, Regen und Begegnungen mit anderen Motorradfahrern.
Höhepunkte: Grandiose Landschaften. Wandern am Grand Canyon du Verdon. Baden im Mittelmeer. Schweinebraten in Deutschland.

(Egypt) from UK using 2 x Africa Twins
1st leg: UK to Bilbao (ferry) - then
travel around coastal region North West Spain, down west coast Portugal, around
southern tip and up eastern coastal region of Spain. Follow coast through south
of France, down west coast Italy, around Sicily, up east coast Italy, ferry trip
across to Greece, again mainly coastal route through to Athens - to take boat
crossing to Alexandria (Egypt) - last part will be from Alexandria to South Sinai.
We will be planning to stay in Egypt to work as diving instructors for perhaps
12-18 months - at least that is the intention! While in Egypt we would be hoping
to do trips around the Sinai, up the east coast to Dahab, and also up the west
coast and across to Cairo, then down the Nile some way. We would anticipate that
these excursions would probably last between 1 and 2 weeks.
We have not completely
decided about our return journey, whether we will be shipping the bikes back,
or whether we might be able to undertake another bike trip back - perhaps this
time through Northern Africa to Morocco then Spain, France UK- this is still open.

Dr. Brammer (German, born ???)
- Helmut and ?? plan to ride...
Route : Germany (by bike to München) - by train to Italy (Rimini - with ferry from
Ancona to) - Greece (Igoumenitsa - by bike to Thessaloniki - border Greece - Turkey
(Ipsala - here we meet 5 Harley-Rider from Turkey who escorte us to Istanbul -
Samsun - ...)
In
Helmut
Report for Willy G.DavidsonSchwarzmeer-Rally 2003
HD-Anniversary-Ride
from Istanbul to Tblissi and from the Caucasus across the Ukraine.15 well
motivated men on an average age of already 60 years
on 15 big bikes.
We
wanted to proof, that a good motivation is more important than the date of birth.
We
wanted to struggle for the international friendship of bikers
and support the
Central Children Hospital in Tblisi and
we wanted to proof again that Harley-Davidson
after 100 years
development is able to go under extreme conditions.
In the
heat of Chot el Djerid, Tunesia, I got the idea to sur-round the Black Sea with
my 96-E-Glide standard 120.000 km.
I organized the rally with the help of biker-friends
basing on meetings in Athen, Izmir, Istanbul, Warzawa, Odessa and Crimea. The
travel agency just ordered the tickets for train and ship.
9th of may we get
together - list included - to start our Anniversary - Rally round the Black Sea
from Germany, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Chzech.
Republik to Italy at first by train and to Igoumenitsa, Greece, by ferry-boat.
The
exact start was 11th of may 7 o`clock in the harbour of Igoumenitsa with 15 Harleys
and one service car.
In Greece the road conditions are quite o.k. but hundreds
of hairpin bends up to Larissa was not the hobby of everyone in our group. Nevertheless
exhausted but happy we ended that first rally-day in Thessaloniki with a good
meal in a typical Greece restaurant.
Next day 5 Turkish biker friends from
HOG Istanbul kept us at the Turkish/Greece border. These guys already came up
300 km from Istanbul and stewed hours in the heat only to embrace us as very best
friends . Together we reached Istanbul at rush-hour but nevertheless our guides
let us directly to a marble aqua-park.
Bikes in front of blue water, music,
welcome buffet and TV.
We got a splendid friendship-platelet and handsome presents
for everybody from the past president of 500-member HOG Istanbul, Varol Candar,
who personally led us next morning 7 o`clock across the Atatürk-Bridge to
the asian part of Turkey.
That day we did about 900 km from Istanbul via Ankara
to Samsun in front of the Black Sea. The highway now is following the coastline
- snowy hills at one and blue water on the other side, but with extreme changing
pavement - from brandnew over very bad to not existing , where trucks, cars and
motor-cycles struggle for their life.
In Hopa we got our Georgian guide, Georgi,
best organized from the German tourism-manager, Rainer Kaufmann, and his team
from Tblisi Travel Center. The customs asked us for 60,-$ and need 3 hrs., what
made us rather angry not knowing that this was ridiculous in addition to the future
border-crossings!
But at first we got to know the Georgian-food! Within 15
minutes our border-guide organized a generous buffet with salad, tomatoes, cucumber,
radish, onions, soup, joghurt, little meat balls, eggs and bred, orange juice,
coke, tea for 50,-$.
Well, this refreshments were really necessary to survive
the terrible road track from Batumi to Kutaisi besides rotten houses, destroyed
industries and deserted landscape with oil-water - the difficult heritage of the
USSR - sheep, cows , pigs, horses, ducks and goose on the road. Every 3 km stood
2 old police-men in very old uniforms, but nobody stopped us. In fact, they did
not get their sold from the state but had to look for their pension on the road.
At
every tank-stop within minutes we were surrounded by black dressed men, who tried
to pinch, what was possible, so we got a bit afraid of this "Black Thieves
of Georgia ".
The capital Tblissi was not as rotten as the country and
some buildings are already restored; one third of the population of only 5 mio
lives abroad, one third in the capital and one third in the country, 30% of the
export is scrape, the state nearly does not get any tax and nobody will pay money
for social systems.
Additional to our wish to relief the Central Children Hospital
of Georgia in Tblisi we became acquainted with Mr Irakli Sasania,MD.General Director
M.Iashuili Children`s Central Hospital from Georgia, the manager of the hospital,
a very engaged neurologist, who left his job for being educated as a manager in
England and the States to help the ill children in his country. His special problem
was not the lack of medicaments or instruments, but the fact that he has 200 MD`s
for 360 patients, because the old system guaranteed a job, but not the pay nor
the training for the young colleagues. So - besides the medicaments, we brought
to the hospital - we promised to help him to solve this problem- not yet knowing
in what way.
In 8 hours we shaked to the Great Caucasus, Kazbek 5.055 m, across
an exciting high mountain region near the Russian border - nearly impossible for
big bikes.
The last night we spent in an incredible hotel in reduced circum
-stances near the in former times beautiful but nowadays total neglected seaside
with ants in beds and dog-carcasses at the beach. So nobody was sad to leave the
harbour of Poti with an rusted old Bulgarian ferry, I have tried to organize since ½ a year and had become the o.k. 2 days before leaving Germany.
After
17 hours we didn`t know, that the harbour we reached in Novorossijsk, Russia,
was one with a criminal structure, owning to the minister of transportation, who
blackmailed everybody. The so called customers did nothing , but imprisoned us
in the heat of 30°C without any reason for 27 hours. After paying the ransom
from 850,-$ they allowed us to go - but only for 2 hours biking across the beautiful
countryside. Police stopped us
and - not accepting German or US driver-license
from one member and roar at me for 30 minutes - he asked for 200,-$ - naturally
without any receipt, like the bandits before him. This facts Putin should know,
when he asked to trade without visa across Europe!
3 hours later we escaped
after 30 hours waiting and 1.000,-$ pay for 3 hours biking. Russia never again!!
Next
ferry, next border-stop of 10 hours in Kerc, Ukraine, between Black Sea and Asowschen
Mare and next corrupt policeman, who sold his conscious for 100,-$.
The Highways
in Ukraine are quite o.k., but gasoline was horrible - 98 octan as bad as 95 ,
but our bikes did not give up!
For heavens sake in Simferopol we met Ashot
Akopian, the friendly and extreme helpful Armenian president of the Crimean Moto
Club on his brandnew Goldwing, who lived on the road for already 2 days to meet
us permanent struggling against the police, because he had no license plate. After
a luxurious dinner for Ashot and his friends, who all want to join the HD-Anni-versary
Party in Hamburg, Germany, wonderful atmospheric
served by a butler "Sir
James" of the " Dinner for One " next day we raced to Odessa -
and promptly had to pay another 100,-$.The Ukraine is a large country with roads
like highways leading into the eternity, but it is cheaper to go not faster than
90 km/hrs.
But besides this bullshit-police it is a beautiful country, the
one-time granary of the USSR and we always met people and biker-friends with golden
hearts, who helped us in any case wherever they could do. In Odessa Goblin, the
president of the Ukrainian Goldwing Club and Alexander Deidiker, the first and
single HD-dealer from the Ukraine, waited for more than two days to pilot us across
the old city and next morning to the Harley-shop. I think this was a memorable
event, when Goblin with his Goldwing commanded a parade with 15 dusty and exhausted,
but happy Harley biker across down town of Odessa to historic places for radio-
and TV-interviews.
The HD-dealer Sascha was very generous not only in Odessa,
but also in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine and we were passed from one biker to
the other ( There are nearly no Harleys in Ukraine) - so that we never got lost.
In L`vov Oleg, the single Goldwing-biker in the city - picked us up from a gas-station
to bring us to our hotel near the polish border.
Our rally-organisation ended
in L`vov and the last 1.000 km I did together with two other 61 and 64 years old
members within 16 hrs. without penalty!
For me as the organizer and road-captain
this rally was a big experience, so that I became willing to organize next year
the
"Caucasus-Rally 2004 " from the Caspic to the Black Sea - Baku
- Jerivan - Tblissi - to combine the three countries Azerbeid-schan, Armenia and
Georgia for a tourism route.
In the international meeting-point in Tblissi,
Hotel "Kartli" from Rainer Kaufmann, we probably met our sponsor, the
general manager of a big French mineral water company, who already had sponsored
other extreme tours.
Except the corrupt police and the "Black thieves
from Georgia" we have met only friendly people and became acquainted with
numerous biker-friends especially in Turkey and Ukraine.
Single technical problem
: Broken ball bearing , because the HD-dealer did not change this part; a ripped
throttle lever and broken carriers on several bikes.
The total distance of
the Anniversary Black Sea Rally was 7.500 km in 17 days with 15 "old men" on 15 big Harleys.
No accident - No severe break-down.
Thank God and three

+"East
Europe Tour". Corinna (BMW R1100GS), Michael (Yamaha XTZ850 Super
Ténéré) and Lothar (KTM LC4) travelled about 6000km from
Germany through Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania and Slovakian, Czech. Republik
and back to Germany.
Purpose of your travel: Holiday. Enlagement of
the European Union on 01.05.2004. Advantage of Travelling by Motorcycle: Meet
interesting people, landscape and languages.
Route: Germany (NRW -
Hechlingen - Isny) - Italy (Schlanders) - Austria (Lienz (1.AWTET auf Camping
Amlacher Hof)) - Slovenia (Bled - Ljubliana - Maribor - Ptuj) - Hungary (Baja)
- Romania (Sibiu - Bukarest - Sinestre - Mamaia -Constanta - Valenii di Munte
- Dirste bei Brasov - Bran) - Hungary (Baia de Cris - Kismaros) - Austria (Höburg/
Herzogenburg) - Czech. Rep. (Vimperk - Hracholusky) - Germany (Pockau - NRW: Duesseldorf/Wuppertal)
The best: Friendship of Romanian people, Landscape of Carpati, Cycling
at the beach of Black Sea, Creation of our own Tour T-Shirt and Logo! This was
my first trip to Romania and I was fascinated by friendly people, nature and landscape,
and will travel to RO another time, because I like much woods and travel routes
of Carpatii. But I don't like nonstop-rain as we had! We reached the coast of
Black Sea hoping for sunshine and spending some days at the beach (and drying
our baggage and tents), but the rain followed us. Unfortunately, we cancelled
most of our trips cross country and cycling offroad due to bad wether.
The
worst: Flat tyre of Lothar's KTM near to Wiesbaden on 1st day. Defective thermostat
of KTM LC4 in Maribor. Bad Weather every day (windy, cold, rain non-stop), bad
roads in Romania. The motor chain of Michael's Yamaha teared, and 10 kilometers
away from German boarder on last day of trip - Help by ADAC four hours later:
Organising the Transport back to Wuppertal of Michael's Motorbike, because the
chain damaged "Hinterradschwinge" also. He took a car from Chemnitz
"sponsored" by ADACplus.

Thomas
Weller (1973, German)
+ Euope > Russia
> Europe. Polar-Night tour to Murmansk
(Russia). Thomas rode solo with a ??? xyz kms ??
Purpose: Riding long
time on ice-tracks.
Route: Germany (Kausen - Travemünde) by ferry
to Finnland (Helsinki - Heinola - Kuusamo - Ivalo - Inar i- Kirkenes) - Ruissia
(Murmansk - Moncegorsk - Louhi - Kostomuksa - Kuhmo - Helsinki) by ferry back
to Germany (Travemünde - Kausen).
The Tour : Kausen-Travemünde,
enter the "finntrader" ?? ( was ist das ??) to Helsinki, the first 100km
in Finland were full of wet snow, then it became colder and the road conditions
became better and better, which meant "dry ice" on the road. Snow fall
most of the time during my tour. Sun goes down in south Finnland around 14.30
o´clock..... Passed the polar circle north of Kuusamo, rode to Ivalo/Inari
where the clouds allowed a look to the black heaven with thousands of stars. The
green polar-light began to glow : showtime ! Found a place for my tent, but it
began to snow......". Your motocycle is the first cross of the Russian border
in Kirkenes in this time of the year", the custom collector said. "Are
you sure?".... No problems at the custom or any checkpoint in Russia at all!
Rode to Murmansk, stayed there for two days. There was no sunrise at all, it´s
polar night. Rode to south, near to Petrosavodsk I turn to the karelian forest,
using small wood-cutter roads. Back to Finland.Back to Germany.
The best: I met very friendly Russian people.
The worst: I got bitten by a dog
(not really hard...)

Hans Oostendorp (Dutch, born 11.06.1976)
+ Scandinavia. Hans rode solo Scandinavia with YAMAHA XT 600 E (with Tesch-Travel-Träger and Tesch-Travel-Taschen). In 29 day's, 12.784Km, 1300 pictures, everything went perfect..
Purpose: A test to see if I can make true, a long kept dream of making motorcycle travels. To see if I am able to do solo tours. This was a test holiday to test equipment and spirit. Perhaps the first tour of many?
The Aim of the Trip: To make dreams come true. Anything is possible, never give up. To live every day completely different then a normal office day and enjoy the world around us.
Route: 29.05.2005 - 30.05.2005 : Netherlands, Germany, Denmark. 31.05.2005 - 03.06.2005 : Sweden 04.06.2005 - 06.06.2005 : Finland 06.06.2005 - 07.06.2005 : Norway (passed 5000Km on 07.06) 07.06.2005 - 09.06.2005 : Northcape 09.06.2005 - 13.06.2005 : Norway 13.06.2005 - 15.06.2005 : Lofoten Norway 16.06.2005 : Sweden (again) 17.06.2005 - 23.06.2005 : Norway (Trondheim, Bergen, Oslo) 24.06.2005 - 26.06.2005 : Denmark, Germany, Netherland
The best: Difficult to say. The bautifull Lapland in Finland, Nortcape, Lofoten, Oslo. Small roads near Russia, muddy roads near Pokka. Empty camp sites. A warm sleeping bag after a cold raining day!
The worst: Day's I couldn't find a place to sleep, with rain pouring all day long with cold temperatures. Earlier experience: Driving by motorcycle for three weeks through snow and cold in december 1999 - december 2000 from Netherlands to Spain (also kept hand written diary). My very first motor cycle holiday in 1997: 5000Km's through europe (Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Germany, Tshechie, Austria, Switserland, France, Luxemburg, Netherlands.) Publications: Not yet, busy writing book about Nortcape 2005.
Useful tips for others: Bring a good tent with a very good sleaping bag. Even when you are wet and cold after al long day, your are warm and dry in your tent. A good sleep is very improtant! Also eat very well. If you don't eat and drink enough, you can't think well. If you can't think well you wont' enjoy your tour as much as you could. And even worse, perhaps make stupid mistakes.
Plans for the future: Iceland! after that: England, Greece
I still think about my holiday al lot. It was a perfect tour. I still use the panniers every single day, for shopping, moving computers etc. Where would I be without them? I realy don't need a car.
31.07.2005:
Thanks again for all your help, it made all that possible. The first travel of
many. Can't wait for the next one. The panniers are perfect.

Route: Germany, Austria, Slowenia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany. We avoided big cities except for Istanbul and took where possible a rather direct connection. At the first half to Turkey we first crossed the Alps. After Slowenia we came to Croatia. From there we drove until Albania along the mediterranean coast. Albania enforced us to drove more in interior regions. After then crossing Greece we reached Turkey and had two nice recreational days in this huge city. Backwards we headed the route complete in the interior of Europe and startet in Romania.
The best: Each country and huge differences in culture, languange and nature all within europe
The worst: Destroyed cities in war areas ( Croatia + Serbia ) and the poorly developed and poor country Albania in the middle of rich Europe
Important useful information to others: A lot! But at the end just do it! If you've particular questions please contact us.

+ "Crossing Europe in 8 days". The trip including the complete story is presented on : www.CoWrinna.de , www.joedakar.com and www.Wunderlich.de Corinna ( BMW R1200RT modified by Wunderlich GmbH, Sinzig/Germany) and Jochen (BMW K1200R modified by Wunderlich GmbH, Sinzig/Germany) travelled round about 10.000km through Europe within 9 days (8 days were planned)
Starting from Sinzig/Germany through Poland, Lithuania, Lativa, Estonia, Finland, Norway (Northcape), Sweden, Danmark, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Spain to Europe Point at Gibraltar (GB). Flight back from Jerez de la Frontera/Spain to Frankfurt-Hahn/Germany by Ryanair. The motorbikes were driven back to Sinzig/Germany by Erich Wunderlich and Frank Tholey.
Purpose of your travel: Testing the brandnew BMW Motorbikes and Accessoires produced by Wunderlich and testing ourself. Reaching the best time in long distance riding on a motorbike and crossing Europe. Gaining a worldrecord in motorcycling from the Northcape/Norway to The Europe Point/ Gibraltar.
Route: Germany (Sinzig - Zwickau - Dresden) - Poland (Breslau - Piotrkow - Warschau - Suvalki) - Lithuania (Kaunas) - Lativa (Riga) - Estonia (Kabli - Tallin) - Finland (Helsinki - Lahti - Oulu - Kemi) - Norway (Kautokeino - Alta - Olderfjord - Northcape - Olderfjord) - Finland (Pello - Tornio) - Sweden (Haparanda - Lulea - Umea - Stockholm - Helsingborg) - Denmark (Helsingor - Kopenhagen - Rodbyhavn) - Germany (Puttgarden - Hamburg - Hannover - Köln - Sinzig - Trier ) - Luxemburg - France (Metz - Dijon - Lyon - Montpellier - Perpignan) - Spain (Girona - Barcelona - Valencia - Almeria - Granada - Malaga - La Linea) - Gibraltar/Great Britain.
Info:This trip was quite different to our normal way and intention to travel. We like more to ride slower, having time to relaxe, to rest on nice campsites and places. We like to talk to native people and other traveller we meet. We only wanted to know, if it is possible to do a trip like this. Now we know it works! And that is enough! Both, we prefere traveling more intensive without a counter of time and kilometers.
The best: No technical problems!!! We never break traffic regulations (e.g. speed limitations etc.)!!!!!! On tour together with Jochen. Interest of people alongside the roads, different landscape of European Continent.
The worst: The third day! Pain everywhere.... Many changes of weather, it was raining every day a few times! +0,5°C at Northcape, Less time to see interesting places during the trip.
Book or publication: in several newspapers and motorcycle journals, Websites ( www.wunderlich.de , www.joedakar.com , www.cowrinna.de)

Route: Germany , Poland , Lithuania , Latvia , Estonia , Finland , Sweden , Germany (5000 km round trip) in 19 days.
The best: Good weather conditions (with luck) even in Finland. Natives told us that usually the floor is covered with snow this time. Interestingly the baltic countries are each different in culture and landscape. As not insider of these regions we had expected more differences.
The worst: Carcass ("Überreste") of soviet culture in the baltic countries. Sometimes cultural clashes ...

Highlights: It was a very geat time and an absolutely experience to ride all allone and to sleep only outdoor !
The worst: I had an bad accident in Oreada (Romaina). There are very bad roads with big holes, broken rocks, gravel, tracks, sand and much other not very funny things. Crossing the road, my frontwheel was caugt up in a track and we (my bike und me) took a purler. My knee and my rips were badly hurted. So I had to travel about 3000 kms with a bad woundet knee and rips...But my bike was all well!
And a short time further an attack. 50 kms further, out of the city, I needed a break, a little bit out of a village. There I had an attack: A very poor womem with a little gilrl by her side wanted to get money from me. I didn't give her, she tried to get it with violence, but I cood chase her. I had much luck, that she was alone.

Emanuel Karlsson ( Sweden , born 14.09.1979)
+ A round in Europe. In less than a month Emanuel rode solo 4000 km with a scooter Piaggio NRG MC3 50cc scooter through 12 countries.
Purpose of travel: To see how far you can get on a scooter
Route: Sweden - Germany - Czech Republic - Austria - Slovenia - Croatia - Italy - France - Italy - Switzerland - Austria - Germany - here the motor blew up. because it would take a week to get the spareparts Emanuel went home without scooter. This one will be trabsported to Sweden by insurance company.
The best: Great wheater, slow and quiet, great scenery. Taking only the small roads through every country really makes you experience it.
The worst: Beeing passed by all faster vehicles which made me really scaring. Info: A scooter is not made to go this far. The exaust-system broke after 12 hours. The engine broke down after only 16 hours, and then again after three weeks. Don't go this far with a scooter, you might get yourself killed. Website: http://www.mobilblogg.nu/emanuel

Egon Milbrod (German, born 1954) http://www.milbrod.eu
+ Kaukasus.

Route : Deutschland – Pommern - Preussen – Litauen – Lettland – Estland – Petersburg – Kishi – Karelien – Deutschland
The best: Eigentlich alles!

Deutschland - Schlesien - Slowakei - Ungarn- Rumänien (Bukowina) – Moldawien – Transnistrien - Odessa – Krim- Naltschik – Wladikawkas – Wolgograd – Moskau – Kursk – Wolhynien – Deutschland.
The worst: Eigentlich gar nichts.

Later he changed the bike and rode a little KAWASAKI GPZ 305 Belt Drive.
Purpose of your travel: Winter Destinations get special, almost surreal perspectives. The Adventure of Nature, the constant battle with the cold and the overcoming of our own makes winter trips on the motorcycle so unique. 1998-2010: Bruno rode many trips with his friends in the winter time. At first, the winter biker made several trips with sidecars. Suzuki GSX 1100G and EML - Sidecar. Later he changed the bike and rode a little KAWASAKI GPZ 305 Belt Drive .

January 2010 Bruno rode with his friends Rainer and Volker from Duisburg-Germany to Kiel, then they ship off to Helsinki-Finland. The Highlights : The friendship and the confidence to travel partners. The friendliness and helpfulness of the people "on route". Astonished faces of people to meet motorcyclists in the winter.

Dr. Friedemann Müller (German, birthday 1960) sorry, no homepage yet

Around Ostsee. Friedemann rode solo ca 10.500 km on a BMW 1150 GS a long tour around the Baltic Sea.
Purpose of my travel: Wanted to visit Sandra in Oslo (priority #1, very important!) but also wanted to experience the dramatic landscapes of the Norwegian fjords, highlands and glaciers, to follow sperm whales in the Lofoten, to ride my motobike at midnight sun from the North Cape to Murmansk via the absolute seclusion of the Arctic Sea route, to watch wild brown bears in the endless woods of Karelia and to get an impression of the Finnish Lakeland, the Baltic states including Kaliningrad on my way home. Also important for me was a stop at the big sand dunes and the Thomas Mann's summer cottage on the Courland spit in Nida.
Route: Germany (Berlin) - Denmark (Hirthals) - ferry to Norway (Kristiansand, South Cape (Lindesnes), hiking to Prekestolen, by ferry along the Lysefjord from Forsand to Lysebotn, hiking to Kjeragbolten, from Lyseboth to Oslo (48h rain), then north via Bygdin lake, Jostedalsbreen national park (hiking to the Nigardsbreen glacier), Soghefjell (rain but also some snowing), Trollstigen and the Atlantic route to Kristiansund, via Trondheim, Mo I Rama, nordic circle, Andenes (only rain and clowds, whale safari) in the Lofoten and Hammerfest to the North Cape (fog with some clear offs), from there via the Arctic Sea route (N98) to Kirkenes) - and to Russia (Murmansk, E105 to Kandalaksha (thunderbolt and volley), then via Alakurtti to - Finland (Salla, along the Russian border through Karelia to Oulangah national park and furher south via small roads (843 and 912) to Vartius (wild brown bears), Koli “mountains” (great view), Savonlinna (a real castle), the old road of Punkaharju parallel to E14, sick sack between Pihlajavesi and Saimaa lake on small roads via Kiviapaja, Sulkava, Imatra, Lappeenranta, Suomenniemi to Helsinki)) - ferry to Estonia (Tallin, Haapsalu, Pärnu) -to Latvia ( Riga, Kuldiga, Aizpute) - to Lithuania (Palanga, Nida (sand dunes of the Courland spit, Thomas Mann's summer cottage)) - to Russia (Kaliningrad (very hot and busy) - to Poland (Malborg (Marienburg, biggest castle made of bricks, very impressive!)) back to - Germany (Berlin).
Highlights: the excitements and the views when standing on Prekestolen and Kjeragbolten (you really need good nerves) , whale watching in Andenes, the reclusion of the Arctic Sea route (no caravans!), bear watching trip in Karelia (I was pretty scared when I saw my first wild brown bear) and the sand dunes on the Courland spit.
The worst: invasion of the North Cape by thousands of tourist from very big cruise ships – I was really happy to escape from the North Cape hustle via the Arctic Sea route
Useful / important information and TIPS for others: Norway is very easy to travel, a tent is useful since you can stay wherever you want, but don't forget to ask if people are around. Huts are also very common and helpful since it can be quite cool and rainy. Often you can take the key when you arrive late at night and pay the next morning. Don't forget warm rain protection and winter cloves; also take some over garment for your shoes with you. That will help to keep you feet dry and warm. Don't be afraid of Russia, but don't forget to get a Visa in advance. On the border to Russia you have to fill in the engine number of your bike. So just make sure that you know where your engine number is to avoid trouble at the border. If you decide to ride off-road make sure your street tyres are in reasonable shape and don't panic with your gas grip otherwise you might kiss the bushes as it happened to me.
Earlier Experiences of big Motorcycle-Tours: 2009 overland ride to Peking via Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the years before many trips within Central and Eastern Europe, very long time ago a trip through the Sahara desert with Peugeot 504 cars to Lome in Togo.

+ Sardinia. Nargiza (YAMAHA XJ600) and Gero (BMW 1200 GS ADV) went to Sardinia to do some biking in the winter.
Travelling about 2500km on the Island they tried to see most of the regions of this beautiful place.
Purpose: To enjoy some warmer winter-days on the motorbike and perhaps a bit more sun than we have in Germany in january.
Route: With our loved and reliable VW Golf3 and a trailer from Germany – Austria -Italy (Livorno) - Ferry – Biking on Sardinia – Ferry – Italy – Austria – Germany.
The best: Riding to the beach with the bike and have a beer in the sun after a nice tour on the Island – IN JANUARY IN EUROPE.
The worst: Biking in mistral with a wind speed and blasts with more than 100 km/h… Puhh, not funny sometimes in the mountains.
Important useful information for others: Sardinia in winter is definitely worth to try – you will not regret it. Nice people, nice country!
